ATHENS, Texas — The Tyler Junior College Women's Soccer team claimed the Region 14 Championship on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Trinity Valley Community College 2–0 at Cardinal Field.
The Apaches wasted no time taking control, scoring twice within a two-minute span in the opening half. Gabi Hislop broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, finishing a pass from Anna Powell to put TJC on the board. Just over a minute later, Brianna Garcia doubled the lead off an assist from Cynthia Adamu, giving the Apaches all the offense they would need.
From there, TJC's defense locked down the Cardinals. Goalkeeper Marieke Pohl earned the shutout with five saves, anchoring a back line that kept Trinity Valley without a single scoring chance.
With the win, Tyler Junior College secures the Region 14 title, and advance to the District Final against Ranger College on Friday, Nov. 7. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm in Snyder, Texas.
