Apache Ladies Advance in Baytown

BAYTOWN, TX - Tyler Junior College Women's Basketball defeated Paris Junior College 70–62 on Wednesday night in the opening round of the Region XIV Women's Basketball Tournament. 

Tyler led 22–9 after the first quarter before Paris responded with a 19–9 second quarter to cut the deficit to 31–28 at halftime. The Apaches regained control in the third quarter, outscoring the Dragons 25–15 to build a double-digit lead entering the fourth. Paris closed the game with a 19–14 advantage in the final period but was unable to overcome the deficit.

Monica Bottley led Tyler with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Kennedi Johnson added 16 points, and Taler Thornton finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Trinity Davis scored six points while making two 3-pointers, and Siara Bracey contributed six points and seven rebounds.

Tyler shot 60 percent from the field (30 of 50) and 50 percent from 3-point range (5 of 10).

Amora Alston led Paris with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Serena Anukem added eight points and six rebounds, while Mackenzie Young finished with eight points off the bench.

Paris shot 29.9 percent from the field (23 of 77) and 24 percent from beyond the arc (6 of 25).
