Apache Ladies Win Thriller in Paris

PARIS, Texas — Tyler Junior College outscored Paris Junior College 18-11 in overtime to secure a 69-62 win Saturday afternoon.

The Apaches improved to 17-7 on the year, and 6-4 in conference play.

TJC led 20-18 at halftime after holding Paris to single digits in both the first and second quarters. Paris responded with a 22-point third quarter to take a 40-30 lead into the fourth.

The Apaches answered with 21 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 51-51 and force overtime. Monica Bottley led Tyler with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, and added four free throws.

Kennedi Johnson scored 13 points and went 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. Siara Bracey finished with nine points and eight rebounds, while Taler Thornton recorded 12 rebounds to go with seven points.

TJC shot 29.4% from the field but converted 26 of 33 free throws (78.8%). The Apaches also recorded six blocks and nine steals.

Paris was led by Serena Anukem with 17 points. Jayme Poindexter added six points and 20 rebounds. The Lady Dragons shot 30.9% from the field and 1 of 13 from 3-point range.
