Apaches Battle Hard but Fall Short Against Kilgore College in Region XIV Championship

Baytown, TX – The Apaches conquered the Blinn Buccaneers and the Paris College Dragons to make it to the Region XIV tournament. Through their hard-fought battles, the Apaches, originally slated to be sixth in the region, entered the tournament seeded at number 2 with a 19-11 record.

The Apaches put up a fierce fight but ultimately fell short against Kilgore College, losing 67-58 in a hard-fought game. Despite their valiant effort, the Apaches couldn't overcome Kilgore's offensive efficiency and late-game surge.

The Apaches entered the game with determination and energy but struggled with their shooting throughout the night. TJC's offensive execution came up just short, as they shot 21-58 (36.2%) from the field and 1-13 (7.7%) from beyond the arc.

Da'Lonna Choice led the Apaches with a standout performance, contributing 18 points, six rebounds, and two steals in nearly 35 minutes of play. Despite struggling with her long-range shooting (1-5 from three), she remained a constant offensive threat, finding ways to get to the line and making key plays when the team needed her most.

Taler Thornton also had a strong outing, adding 10 points, two rebounds, and a team-high six assists in 30 minutes on the court. Kyra Anderson, another standout performer, added nine points and six rebounds in just under 18 minutes, showcasing her all-around skills despite limited playing time.

Although the Apaches struggled with their shot selection, their defense was a bright spot, as they forced Kilgore into 22 turnovers. Monica Bottley and Grace Ezebilo both contributed on the defensive end, with Bottley also providing eight points, and Ezebilo adding four points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Kilgore College capitalized on their shooting efficiency, especially in the second and third quarters, where they outscored the Apaches 35-27.

The Apaches had a wonderful season with an intense ending. Three players were awarded All-Conference and All-Region honors: Grace Ezebilo, Monica Bottley, and Kyra Anderson. Anderson was also named Freshman of the Year. Congratulations to the student-athletes who strive to be their best and to the faculty and staff who support them along the way!
