Apaches Split at Evelyn Blalock Classic, Defeat Odessa College

The Apaches traveled to Kilgore for the Evelyn Blalock Classic, where they faced off against the #10 McLennan Highlanders and the #15 Odessa College Wranglers. The team ended the tournament with a 1-1 split, falling to the Highlanders but securing a victory over the Wranglers.

Apaches Fall to McLennan Highlanders

The Apaches opened the Classic with a strong start, leading the #10 McLennan Highlanders 13-8 after the first quarter. However, the Highlanders quickly found their rhythm, scoring 21 points in the second quarter while limiting the Apaches to just 10. At halftime, McLennan led 29-23.

The Apaches continued to battle back, scoring 16 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Despite their efforts, McLennan maintained its lead throughout the game, outscoring the Apaches 21-16 in the final frame. The Highlanders ultimately claimed victory with a 66-55 win.

Standout Players:

  • Grace Ezebilo had a solid performance with 12 points, 4 assists, and a game-high 15 rebounds.
  • Kamora Jackson provided a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points.

Apaches Bounce Back Against Odessa College

The Apaches faced another ranked opponent in the Odessa College Wranglers, but once again came out hot in the first quarter, posting 27 points to Odessa's 12. The Wranglers tried to respond with an 18-point second quarter, but the Apaches still held a comfortable 38-30 lead at halftime.

In the second half, TJC maintained control, outscoring Odessa in both the third and fourth quarters. The Apaches scored 12 points in the third and 16 in the fourth, while the Wranglers managed only 11 and 13, respectively.

Key Players:

  • Monica Bottley finished with 13 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds.
  • Clementina Odom contributed 17 points and 8 rebounds, playing a major role in the win.
  • Fenishka Bertho added 10 points and 6 rebounds, providing key support for the Apaches.

The Apaches closed out the Classic on a high note, and now look to continue their momentum at home on Monday, January 6th, against Western Gulf at 2 p.m.
