Men's Nationals: Apaches perfect through Day 2

After drawing all byes on Day 1, the Tyler Junior College men went 9 for 9 on the second day of the National Championships.  All six flights of the singles matches were victorious as were the three flights of doubles matches.   

Juan Carlos Garcia [2]   defeated  Sebastian Vaquero from Meridian Communty College, 6-0, 6-4 in Flight 1.   Samer Al Tori [3] defeated Stanley Long from USC Sumter, 6-1, 6-2 in Flight 2,  Alex Despoja [1]  defeated Caleb Peterson from Iowa Central Community College, 7-5, 6-4 in Flight 3, Dan Persson [2] defeated Dawson Do  from Jones College, 6-2, 6-2 in Flight 4,  Faiz Nasyam [1]  defeated  Martin Puetate from Harford Community College, 6-0, 6-0, in Flight 5.   Daniel Borisov [1]  defeated  Mariano Orsini Rodriguez, from Iowa Central Community College, 6-1, 6-1 in Flight 6.  In the doubles matches,  Alex Despoja [3]
 Juan Carlos Garcia  defeated Valentino Millimaci Arne Sohmer froom Copiah-Lincoln Community College, 6-0, 6-3 in Flight 1,  Doni Gashi [2] Dan Persson defeated Sachin Vanaraja David Voinea  from Prairie State College, 6-0,6-1, in Flght 2, and  Samer Al Tori [4] Calvin Golmei  defeated Marko Filipovic Christian Lopez  from Weatherford College, 6-3, 6-4, in Flight 3. 

The Apaches will participate in all 9 quarter-final matches tomorrow in Plano, Texas.

Plano, TX – The top teams from the NJCAA Division I Men's ranks will meet in Plano, Texas this week for the playing of the 2024 NJCAA Men's Team Championships.

With play beginning today, Monday, May 13th, the NJCAA Team Championships feature numerous flights of play in which individual players can earn points towards their teams total, and the team with the most points at the end of the championships will be crowned NJCAA National Champions.

In 2023, Cowley College was crowned NJCAA National Champions for the first time in program history. Cowley narrowly edged Tyler Junior College, Eastern Florida State College, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College to take home the title.

Entering the weekend, Tyler (1), Cowley (2), Eastern Florida State (3), Barton (4), and Seward (5) are ranked as the top five teams in the Apr. 19 ITA National Team Rankings.
